March 7th, 2008Today we went in to Marius's room and got to hang out with him for two and a half hours and that was really fun. I think that he's getting comfortable with us because he's trying to communicate a lot more. I'm not sure whether this is completely accurate or not, but he told me today that he is getting more skin grafts on his legs monday and that he's excited about it. Later we watched a movie and then played with a balloon. We hit it back and forth a lot and he had a great time. He learned today that he can use his head to hit it as well as his hands and he got a kick out of that. Later he showed me that he could hold the balloon with his palms. I asked if he could hold a pen that way and he said that he couldn't but that he probably could with his mouth. So I got out a pen and paper and we gave it a shot. Sure enough he managed to scribble numbers 1-10 by writing with his mouth. It was pretty messy but really exciting, and I think that it's something that we can start working with him on. He told me that he used to be able to write better with his hands, but when he said it he didn't sound down. Overall, he was actually really upbeat today. We had a dance party with another little boy in the room and Marius was cracking up as he watched the little boy. They took the blanket off of him today and we were amazed by how good he looks. His chest is not burned at all, so it looks like it may indeed only be his face that needs surgery. The burns on his arms are also healing really well, and his feet are much less red and swollen than they were when we first started visiting him. So that was good to see, because he seems to be in less pain than he was when we first started visiting. Ash and Jess
